Wool and cashmere are durable, natural materials that will last a long time with proper care:
Washing: Wash the hat only when truly necessary.
Detergents: Use only a gentle detergent designed for wool. Do not use fabric softener!
Machine washing: Select a gentle wool cycle and turn the garment inside out before washing. Use a low spin speed. After washing, reshape the garment while it is still damp.
Hand washing: Use lukewarm water and avoid wringing or twisting the fabric vigorously. Gently press out excess water with a towel.
Drying: Dry flat on a towel. Do not place on a radiator or tumble dry!
